Re: Were thr airline right? in my book yes
There are some inconsistencies in the 'story' and it doesn't quite ring true.
Flight Centre, a bunch of scammers that bring disrepute to the travel industry, were involved.
I would be very reluctant to pass judgement here for or against the airline without knowing the facts - and that will never happen.

I don't know mate. The girl in the middle has a nice smile.
As I pilot I guess we have a weight and balance problem here "par excellence"...
Edited later - I am with Capetonian on this one.

I would have said the most relevant fact is obvious in the photo, and explained very well in the article.

They've got their own built-in safety padding.
The real failure is that somewhere during the booking process there should have been a prominent notice about the maximum size of person allowed in that class of seat.

On our TransAtlantic cruise flights there is a premium economy. We were only able to book seats there once as the above mentioned fat slobs book as soon as the bookings open. In addition to being FS they are often disgusting pigs consuming both carry on duty free and the extra booze provided in premium economy.
On one medium haul flight was an outsized woman wheeled on board in an outsized wheel chair. We were at the front with a spare seat. I just glared and the gentleman in the row behind kindly made room.
Fanny Phatarsee thought it was a joke.
