BA positioning 8 A380’s to Chateauroux for storage, leaving 3 at LHR and one under maintenance in Manila, wonder if they’ll ever return, latest rumours are that 40 aircraft being scrapped or being returned to lessors, mind you most of the A-319’s were due to be retired anyway.

The no-return to service for the A380 will be really pity but it sounds so realistic.

The A-380 is not coming out of this well, Lufty to reduce fleet :-o
Lufthansa will permanently retire parts of its fleet due to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis. The airline expects long-term demand to be affected beyond the current pandemic.

In a release published on Tuesday afternoon, the company explains that it does not see demand coming back very quickly once travel restrictions are lifted, and is therefore forced to cut its operations beyond the temporary suspensions already in place.

For its long-haul fleet, Lufthansa will remove six Airbus A380, seven A340-600 and five Boeing 747-400 from its operations. Furthermore, Lufthansa CityLine will retire three Airbus A340-300 that it was operating on behalf of its parent.

Would have thought the A-380 would be a real goer with pax sitting in alternate seats, which may become the norm. Previous economics were based on how many SLF they could pack in. It seems to have changed.

I can't believe that were'e talking about the 380 in the past tense already. That makes me feel so old.

I remember when manned spaceflight was something for the Future. I remember when we looked forward to people going to the moon and back. I remember when we looked forward to supersonic trans-Atlantic flight.

I remember flying to Bahrain on Concorde. It felt like I was in the Future.

I've flown in First Class on the 380 three times. Each trip was a pleasure. Being able to have a pre-booked shower an hour before ToD was such a delight! The 'butler' used her ironing board to press my fresh shirt and business suit while I was showering and she had time to polish my shoes too. You don't get that on a **** 747 or a 340!

Now the Future is in the past. That's so sad.

That is a job that I am qualified for. I would be able to do most of the things that I did actually doing the job.
Eat, sip coffee, read the paper, and solve world problems with my flying partner.
Up side...not having to get permission to go to the lav. :D
Down side...having to get my own food. :-q
I think that I could handle it OK. :-bd

It is all about that firm but languid, low toned, voice of command...

Ease the Corona panic, speak with a voice that people trust.

I suspect that some aircraft parked as a result of the virus will not come back into service with the airlines that own them.

On the plus side the lower hours being flown and the withdrawal of aircraft will ease their maintenance pressure and allow more to time to re-mediate the Trent 1000 engine issues that have caused Rolls Royce such corporate stress.
