Airline crew blasted for ‘life threatening’ photo shoot on plane wing

https://nypost.com/2023/08/25/swiss-cre ... nos-aires/
Link has video

Their careers certainly aren’t taking off.

Members of a Swiss International Air Lines cabin crew killing time before departing Buenos Aires earlier this month were caught on camera recklessly dancing and posing on the wing of a Boeing 777 shortly before the massive aircraft took off for Zurich, Central European News reports.

Video footage shot by a traveler waiting in the terminal shows a female member of the crew twirling and posing like a Disney princess before waving at a male attendant to join by walking through the open emergency exit.

The male attendant was then seen doing muscle-manlike bodybuilding poses next to the woman, while another male crew member also pops out for an apparent photo op.

Two members of the ground crew on the tarmac are also shown posing for a picture in front of the plane’s engine.

Without delay, airline brass quickly denounced the wing-side stunt, saying in a statement that “this behavior will not be tolerated.”

Flight attendants were seen dancing on a plane's wing before it took off.

“What looks like fun in the video is life-threatening,” said Swiss spokesman Michael Pelzer.

“The wings of the Boeing 777 are about five meters [16.4 feet] high. A fall from that height onto the hard surface can be devastating.”

Pelzer doubled down, saying that crew should only ever set foot on a plane’s wings in the event of a dire emergency — such as evacuations — as he continued to blast the employees’ pie in the sky behavior.

Airline brass, including Vice President Martin Knuchel, called for a ground stop on this type of tomfoolery, saying he was “angry and disappointed.”

Flight attendants from Swiss International Air Lines are in hot water after going out on the wing of a plane.

Even other members of the flight crew, who withheld their names, quickly shot down the actions of their peers.

“I thought, ‘What the f – – k? Is that real?” one 33-year-old colleague said, adding that uniform stripes indicate a cabin chief had partaken in the stunt.

“In addition to the fact that it is of course extremely dangerous, it is simply unprofessional.”

The flight’s other chief, a 39-year-old, added that they were “ashamed of my crew.”

Flight attendants disgraced their airline after making poses on the wing of a plane before it departed.

“If that had happened to me on the ground in Zurich, I would have sent these people straight home.”

This news comes shortly after flight attendants bashed passengers for a recent uptick in near-psychotic behavior.

That includes the viral episode involving Tiffany Gomas, a woman who went on a tirade and later assaulted a man after having a “Twilight Zone”-esque fear that a phantom was onboard her flight from Dallas to Orlando, Florida.

MSP: ‘Potential criminal act’ on Boston flight involved juvenile, flight attendant, cell phone

https://www.boston25news.com/news/local ... MMMSPJJYQ/

BOSTON — State Police at Logan Airport are providing additional details about a “potential criminal act” on board an American Airlines plane that landed in Boston over the weekend.

American Airlines Flight #1441 from Charlotte, North Carolina, landed around 10 a.m. on Saturday.

On Monday, Troop F, which has jurisdiction at Logan Airport, told Boston 25′s sister station, WSOC-TV in Charlotte, that troopers from their barracks were the first to respond, and that the incident involved a ‘juvenile, a flight attendant, and a cell phone.”

Boston 25 News reached out directly to Troop F, and the headquarters of the Massachusetts several times on Monday about this investigation. State Police have referred Boston 25 to the FBI, which has taken over the investigation of the incident because it happened while the plane was in flight.

The Boston office of the FBI had no further comment Monday about the investigation when contacted by Boston 25. Over the weekend, the FBI said it responded to the incident but did not provide any other details.

Boston 25 News also spoke on Monday with a first-class passenger on board Flight 1441. The passenger, who did not want his name used publicly, shared a copy of his boarding pass for that flight to Boston.

The passenger said he saw a teenage girl try to use the bathroom in the first-class section but was stopped by a male flight attendant from going into the bathroom immediately.

“When she was about to go the bathroom he stopped her and said, ‘Hey hold on just a second, we’re about to start collecting trash so I am going to wash my hands.’

The passenger said the girl went into the bathroom after the flight attendant finished.

The first-class passenger told Boston 25 that he then saw the girl’s mother come up to first class and stop another passenger from entering the bathroom.

“The mom stopped that passenger from going to the bathroom and said ‘Wait, don’t go in there,” according to the passenger Boston 25 spoke with.

Then, after the mom returned to the coach section, he asked the other passenger what the mom had said to her.

“That was who told me it was a camera in the bathroom,” said the passenger Boston 25 spoke with.

The passenger told Boston 25 that when the flight landed in Boston, they were met by state police.

“Police came on, and then staff from the airline came on and 3 or 4 different people checked the bathroom,” he said.

The passenger said the girl and her family were the first to get off the plane, with the police.

“After 3 or 4 different people checked the bathroom, they took the male flight attendant off, and that’s when they let us off.”

Boston 25 has reached out to the State Police and the FBI to ask about the information shared by the passenger.

Boston 25 also reached out to American Airlines again on Monday. They shared the same statement provided over the weekend.

“We take this matter very seriously and are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation, as safety and security are our highest priorities,” said an American Airlines spokesperson.

Photo shows hidden iPhone allegedly placed in American Airlines bathroom used by teen girl: family

https://nypost.com/2023/09/13/photo-sho ... om-family/

A newly released photo of the hidden camera that allegedly captured a 14-year-old girl using a bathroom on an American Airlines flight shows how an iPhone was taped to the lid of the toilet, her parents said Wednesday.

The rattled parents — who did not want to be identified, since their daughter is a minor — told The Post that it didn’t immediately register that their daughter was possibly targeted by a male flight attendant during a Sept. 2 trip from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Boston.

But they both strongly believe he carried out the alleged pervy exploit, which they described as “disturbing.”

“I think she’s really angry like we are, that something like this could happen,” her father said.

“I think there’s a real feeling of violation. I think as a teenage girl, she’s a little bit embarrassed that something so intimate as going to the bathroom would be filmed this way.”

Most of the iPhone appears to be taped to the lid of the toilet in the first-class restroom, according to a photo snapped by the teen and provided by the family’s legal team at Lewis & Llewellyn.

The red and white tape has “Inoperative Catering Equipment” and “Remove From Service” printed on it with a note written in marker that says “Seat Broken.”

Only the very top of the iPhone, which was upside down, isn’t covered with tape — and it appears that either the flashlight or camera flash was on.

The family’s lawyers provided The Post with a photo of their boarding passes, which matches up with American Airlines Flight 1441 — which authorities previously confirmed they were investigating.

The family said their daughter originally was waiting in line for a bathroom in the coach section of the plane when the male flight attendant approached her.

He told her there was no line for the first-class restroom and led her there, her parents said.

After another passenger got out of that bathroom, the attendant, estimated to be in his early 30s, told the girl he needed to quickly use the lavatory to wash his hands before trash pickup.

When he left, the teen entered and used the restroom.

But when she flushed, she noticed the iPhone and snapped a photo.

After she headed back to her seat, the same flight attendant went back inside the bathroom, her parents said.

The teen immediately showed her mother the photo, and it took the mom several minutes to understand what she was seeing before her daughter pointed out the iPhone.

“It’s something you never considered before, and it was just really shocking,” her mother said.

The mother feared the item was still taped up in the bathroom, so she darted up to first class to warn other passengers.

She stopped a woman from going in and explained the situation, but when the two checked, the iPhone and tape were gone.

The girl’s father then showed the photo to all four flight attendants, including the male crew member, in hopes of an explanation.

https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/s ... 537714.jpg

“I remember seeing the male flight attendant’s face just go totally white,” the father recalled, noting they didn’t see the man for the rest of the flight after that.

A female flight attendant approached the family at some point to apologize and express disgust over the alleged incident, the family said.

Massachusetts State Police initially responded to the plane after it landed, though state troopers said federal authorities are now handling the case.

Probe launched into American Airlines flight that allegedly had hidden camera in bathroom
The FBI Boston field office and the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts declined to comment Wednesday.

No arrest has been announced tied to the case.

Not much information has been revealed about the case, with state authorities only telling Charlotte-based WSOC that the incident involved a “juvenile, flight attendant, and a cellphone.”

A first-class passenger first told Boston 25 about the alleged incident last week.

While the family was being interviewed by authorities after the flight, an airline rep confirmed to law enforcement that only flight crew would have access to the red tape seen in the photo, the father said.

Police also brought an iPhone to the teen girl, who confirmed it was the same phone she saw in the bathroom, the family said.

The family were the first passengers taken off the flight and saw the alleged creepy attendant escorted off afterward.

“I was looking at him, and he would not look back,” the father said.

One of the family’s lawyers said American Airlines has not contacted their clients since the day of the incident.
Massachusetts State Police initially responded to the plane after it landed, though state troopers said federal authorities are now handling the case.

“It is shocking that a sexual predator could brazenly prey on a minor while she used the bathroom on a flight,” Paul T. Llewellyn, a partner at Lewis & Llewellyn, said in a statement.

“This outrageous act should have never occurred and must never occur again.”

American Airlines did not return an email seeking comment Wednesday but previously said it is taking the alleged incident “very seriously.”

The parents said that while their daughter is one of the toughest people they know, she’s dealing with “a lot of different emotions” after the incident.

What a total idiot. One career washed down the proverbial drain.

I don't believe aptitude tests can predict or divine a human's proclivity for this kind of terminal bad judgement. The final step in his descent was turning up to work and bragging about his lunacy. I suspect he may never work anywhere again, not even flipping burgers!

I wish to lodge a formal protest to OHL about this behaviour. Having visited Johannesburg on a number of occasions, I always found people friendly and helpful towards foreigners, although it does tend to go very dark after sunset. This is not the sort of behaviour I like to read about in a major city in the southern hemisphere. Do you imagine that such events take place in Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, or Santiago? Of course they don't. They are too busy feasting themselves on deliciously barbecued fresh meat to resort to such boorish* behaviour. According to his former employer, they are in shock at what has taken place, and small wonder. I imagine that the reaction from Mrs Beaton could well have something to do with a cookery book becoming airborne.
My previous understanding of the expression ''line abreast' had to do with naval battles. This simply adds to the confusion of one's declining years,
* Please note that this is not a deliberate spelling mistake :)

I am a Johannesburg turncoat having been brought up there and then been forced, kicking and screaming, to move to Cape Town (colloquially known as Slaap Stad i.e. sleep town rhymes with the Afrikaans Kaapstad) in my teenage years and slowly became acculturated, and developed into the Cape Town chauvinist that I now am! I still have great memories of Johannesburg,. :-bd

My nights in Johannesburg and its environs usually consisted of some excellently barbecued 'roadkill' and a bottle or two of 'Goats do Roam*' with colleagues, following which it was back to the hotel for a good night's sleep. Whilst I was never about to drive a large flying machine with hundreds of people sitting behind me, I did have to get up and do a full day's work the following day, which often entailed several hours of careful concentration.

Unusually for the MSM, there is no mention of his age or the value of his house in the articles I have seen - clearly editorial standards are slipping even further, but as one, who from the age of about 26, spent a considerable portion of his time away from home at the company's expense, sometimes in total sh*tholes, the idea of something like this never occurred to me. I can only assume that the whole unfortunate business was brought about by an evening of alcohol-fuelled madness

Indeed. Very interesting. We don't see much French wine sold in Catalonia, or American. The local stuff is priced reasonably (or in some places it's "free" with lunch) and is excellent. Vineyards are always looking to enlarge...

Delta first officer pulls gun on captain and threatens to shoot him

https://airlive.net/emergency/2023/11/0 ... shoot-him/

A US pilot has been indicted for threatening to shoot the captain if a flight was diverted due to a passenger medical emergency.
A former Delta co-pilot was federally indicted earlier this month, accused of threatening to shoot the captain of a commercial flight last year if he diverted the plane because a passenger on board may have been suffering a medical emergency, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

According to court documents, a Utah grand jury indicted Jonathan Dunn with one count of interference with a flight crew.

The purported incident occurred on an Aug. 22, 2022, flight, the Department of Transportation’s inspector general’s office said in a news release Tuesday, but did not specify the airline where the flight originated from, or its destination. However, a Delta Air Lines spokesperson confirmed that Dunn was working for Delta as a Delta first officer at the time of the incident.

According to the inspector general, Dunn, the co-pilot, had “a disagreement” with the captain, who wanted to potentially divert the flight “due to a passenger medical event.”

Dunn then allegedly “told the captain they would be shot multiple times” if the flight was diverted, the inspector general said.
Dunn was authorized to carry a gun as part of the Transportation Safety Administration’s Federal Flight Deck Officer program, the inspector general said.

Federal flight deck officers are airline pilots authorized by the TSA to be armed in the cockpit on domestic flights. They undergo special training to do so and are provided with a TSA-issued weapon to defend the flight deck against an attempted hijacking.

The two-page indictment alleges that Dunn “did assault and intimidate a crew member of an aircraft…and did use a dangerous weapon in assaulting and intimidating the crew member.”

In a statement Tuesday evening, a spokesperson for the Transportation Security Administration said “TSA is aware of an incident involving a Federal Flight Deck Officer.”

Delta toldin a statement Tuesday evening that Dunn was no longer employed by the airline and refrained from commenting further pending the investigation.

Interesting! Was the 'Transportation Safety Administration’s Federal Flight Deck Officer program' in error granting him cockpit carriage or was the Captain loopy? Did they actually do a med diversion or was the Captain shot? So many questions! Answers on a postcard.

During my time after the FFDO program (Federal Flight Deck Officer), known generally as Fidos, came into being it seemed like most who qualified for the program were more interested in the ability to avoid going through the standard security screening (going in through the exit lane and showing their credentials) than actually being serious about their sworn duties.
After the addition of KCM (Known Crewmember) to the security process, initially only for pilots but later expanded to include flight attendants, which allowed them to use a dedicated screening line which checked ID in TSA database and only included random screening through the usual passenger process, many FIDOs stopped carrying.
There were quite a few pilots who participated in the program who had questionable issues and had still passed the supposed in depth background checks. A few also never notified their fellow crewmates that they were packing although it was a requirement.
I would have liked to have gone through the excellent training program, a week of shooting and other training at the same facility where all federal agents are trained in shooting, however the constraints of home life precluded me from being able to be gone for a week and a half prevented that from happening.
There were quite a few stories about FIDOs behaving badly with their guns at hotels after a few too many cocktails. Also instances of forgetting their guns somewhere or taking them on international flights where they were sometimes prohibited from carrying.
I don't recall any instances of an actual interaction involving FIDOs and a Level 4 (attempted breach of cockpit). Let's hope it stays that way.

Former pilot who allegedly threatened to shoot flight captain once sued DOD against Covid-19 mandate
Jonathan J. Dunn joined the Air Force Reserves in November 2000 and in February 2022 sued the Department of Defense after his request for a religious exemption for the Covid-19 vaccine was rejected.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/fo ... rcna123400

The former Delta Airlines pilot who was indicted for allegedly threatening to shoot a flight’s captain midflight is an Air Force reservist who previously sued the Department of Defense over Covid-19 vaccine requirements for service members.

Jonathan J. Dunn served active duty for the Air Force from 2003 to 2014. He entered Air Force Reserves Service as a generalist pilot in November 2000 and has completed "20 years satisfactory service," a spokesperson for the Air Force told NBC News.

This week, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of the Inspector General announced that Dunn was indicted by a grand jury in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah on Oct. 18 for interfering with the crew of a commercial airline flight.

In that incident, which unfolded on Aug. 22, 2022, Dunn was the crew’s first officer when he allegedly got into a “disagreement” about a “potential flight diversion due to a passenger medical event.”

He allegedly “told the captain they would be shot multiple times if the captain diverted the flight,” the Office of the Inspector General said. Dunn was authorized to carry a firearm via the Transportation Security Administration’s Federal Flight Deck Officer program, meant to defend the flight deck against criminal violence or air piracy.

Dunn has since been removed from that program, the TSA said, and is no longer employed with Delta.

A two-page indictment said Dunn “did assault and intimidate a crew member of an aircraft, thereby interfering with the performance of the duties of the crew member and lessening the ability of the crew member to perform those duties, and did use a dangerous weapon in assaulting and intimidating the crew member.”

The Air Line Pilots Association said in a statement: “The safety and security of our crews and passengers is our highest priority, and this individual’s action is wholly inconsistent with that mission."

Dunn’s initial appearance and arraignment is set for Jan. 4. NBC News has reached out to an attorney listed for him.

Dunn could not be immediately reached for comment on Friday.

Dunn, a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, had filed a lawsuit in February 2022 against the Department of Defense, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin, Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall, and two of his commanding officers to avoid punishment for refusing to get the Covid-19 vaccine, according to a source familiar with the matter and court records.

According to that suit, he last lived in Marysville, California, flew combat missions over Afghanistan, and in August 2021 took command of the 452 Contingency Response Squadron in California.

The complaint cites Secretary of Defense Austin’s memorandum issued Aug. 24, 2021 requiring all service members be vaccinated. (The Pentagon later dropped that policy). The complaint said Dunn was threatened with discharge “because of his religiously compelled refusal to receive the vaccine.”

The complaint said his request for a religious exemption was denied and his appeal rejected and he was told he’d be relieved of command by Feb. 14, 2022.

The suit sought to prohibit the defendants from enforcing the vaccination policies against Dunn or “taking any adverse action against him based on his refusal to take the vaccine.”

The case seeking a religious exemption ultimately went before the Supreme Court. According to his application for an injunction pending appeal, his attorney wrote that Dunn was removed from his command and he wanted “only protection against further punishment, including a discharge, because of his religious beliefs.” Ultimately, the application was denied by the court by a 6-3 vote in April 2022.

The case became moot while on appeal because Congress repealed the vaccine mandate, his attorney in the case, Donald Falk, said.

The vaccine mandate was a contentious issue during the pandemic and forced more than 8,400 service members out of the military for refusing the shots, while thousands sought religious and medical exemptions. The January decision by Defense Secretary Austin ended those exemption requests.
