Since when has a flag flown against the airflow? We had this incorrect criticism on 10 Sqn. On the port side the flag pole should be imagined left of the Union Flag. On the starboard to the right. They are quite correct. Don't know who this Moore chap is but he can wind his neck in. Used to piss me off when folk came up with this crap.
But quite right..
When flags are painted onto a vehicle, or on the tail fin of an aircraft, the flag on the port side should show the obverse of the flag (ie. the flagpole on the left), while that on the starboard side should show the reverse (ie. the flagpole on the right). On surfaces perpendicular to the direction of travel (eg. the back of the vehicle) the obverse of the flag should be shown.

You might accuse me of being an agent provocateur here but what about the case where a chap wants to do some aero's and includes a tail slide in his routine? It is not like he can hop out mid air and change the orientation of one flag mid air before the tail slide? =))

;)))
Actually I did think of this GG or on the apron with a tail wind. Anyway, if we were in a tail slide in a VC10 the last f...ing thing on my mind would be the protocol of which way the Union Flags were. :-o Thanks for the reference GG, never seen that. I will read it. When taxiing in on a Royal visit you had to fly the standard of the principle pax and the national flag of the county. Can't remember which way around they went but in the USA it had to be opposite as nothing was allowed to be a certain side of the stars and stripes thing.

Doing world Royal tours there were of course Union Flags all over the place 50% were upside down.

Are they saving all of the good video for a TV show that they are making?

In the support aircraft they have a TV Producer and a "world class videographer" so I presume a documentary will be forthcoming.

The Spitfire crossed the Alps yesterday and is presently in Friedrichshafen. I think before they left UK they planned on a 5 December arrival at Goodwood - looks as though they''ll make that.

The weather cleared so via a nightstop outside Berlin they are in Lelystad tonight - just one more hop will complete the trip back to Goodwood!

The Spitfire is still 6ft under at Lelystad. Weather permitting she departs tomorrow 5 December for Goodwood and the conclusion of the trip. Planned ETA 1130.

She's safely back home - escorted by two Red Arrow Hawks. Excellent live coverage but sadly no sound until the Spitfire was on finals.

Must restart the production line again in view of our soured relations with that island off the S E of the Kent coast? :-w
