They made a mistake a few years ago when Lordi accidentally got through to the final and won in style. Just shows what happens when you let a good entry get through.

The name "Eurovision" was first used in relation to the EBU's network by British journalist George Campey in the London Evening Standard in 1951.

The only bit of Eurovision I've watched in a long time was the aforementioned Lordi performance. Someone in the house was watching the whole thing and when I was informed of who'd won I turned up to watch that bit because it appears that the winner gets to sing their song again at the end.

Many didn't realise that the idea was to NOT win - the winner had to host the next year's event.
Ireland won 7 times before the penny dropped.
