Agree Mrs Ex-A - another idea like the flying cars that every household would be flying around in by several years ago - but if they are getting trials sanctioned...

Presumably, like geese, the more there are in the formation the more the gain aerodynamically, and the longer they can stay formated the greater the benefit too. Take this to it's logical conclusion and the operators of every flight to and from popular destinations will want to use the method - so how would the ATC and pax handling facilities cope with all the mornings flights arriving at once?

It's bad enough now at Barbados when a cruise liner's worth of pax all turn up within about 2 hours - could they cope with two minutes between flights?
