£360 for airline food!

#1 Post by TheGreenGoblin » Tue Oct 13, 2020 7:40 am

If we ever needed proof that mankind has taken leave of its senses!
Diners have rushed to pay up to £360 per head to eat a meal on a stationary plane, in the latest sign of public appetite to recreate the onboard experience without travelling.

Singapore Airlines launched a waiting list after tickets rapidly sold out for two weekends of sittings onboard two stationary A380 superjumbos, with meals at seats and the chance to watch a movie, albeit no longer in-flight.

Guests will get a meal from the standard Singapore Airlines menu, with S$642 (£360) buying the full works in a suite – or £30 per head for the tray in economy. Frequent flyers could also cash in points towards a meal.

All tickets were snapped up in less than half an hour for the pop-up Restaurant A380, the airline told Bloomberg. About half of the 471 seats on each of the airline’s double-decker superjumbos, parked at Changi airport, were expected to be available with social distancing in place.

£360! Transport Command could feed a Beverley load of pongo's for less than that.

I believe Quaintarse (and, probably, others) are offering round-trip flights to nowhere, landing at the same take-off airport - to avoid quarantine.

Selling fast I believe.

If you want a good meal while actually travelling in luxury and seeing plenty of beautiful interesting countryside over an 24 hour period then I recommend the Blue Train. As somebody who was born in Pretoria I can highly recommend the trip to Cape Town on this Train (and no I don't have any interest or shares in Aardvark Safari's)...

Been the, got the T-shirt.

Made a big mistake. We went on a package deal, Train Joburg to CT, 4 nights in the Cape Sun, a hire car, and an SAA flight CT to Joburg.

On the way home, we realised we had done the trip in reverse.

That way we could have filled up our compartment with cases of the Cape's finest, instead of the few bottles we could carry inside the SAA 20kg limit.

The good news was that I paid for the trip from pre-tax money! It went through my accounts as a business trip :-bd

...I always feel dirty after getting off a train. I don't know what that is. Maybe something to do with when Mrs Fliegs & I travelled from Murwillumbah to Sydney an overnight train when we were still in High school Horrid old midnight 'rattler' of a thing it was. All sorts of weird people getting on & off all night at obscure little NSW towns. Lots of aboriginals and old drunks building pyramids out of beer cans on the window sills.Shower was the first thing we did when arrived at future sister in laws place!
