Marines test jet pack landing on ship.

#1 Post by TheGreenGoblin » Tue May 04, 2021 7:39 pm

The Royal Marines are testing out a futuristic new way to board a ship: flying there using a jetpack.

A new video uploaded by Wiltshire-based jetpack maker Gravity Industries shows a Royal Marine using a jet engine-powered suit to land on a nearby ship after approaching it on a powerboat.

The soldier lands on the ship and then pulls out a handgun — a preview of how military and police want to use jetpacks for rapid infiltration missions.

Is the suit actually 'jet-powered'? or are the 'jets' simply electric blowers?

I wonder if any military analysts have evaluated the effectiveness of a matelot with a 12-bore?

I don't think that there is room (or weight) for a 12 bore together with the jet-pack.

I assume that was humour?

(PS I don't think Marines like to be called 'Matelots')

I assumed the matelot was on board the target of the jet powered marines, ready to repel boarders.

.....what would be the effect of firing a burst from an automatic weapon on the flight path? Newton's laws of motion etc? Which hand would you hold the weapon which might spin you around??
I only ask because I'm curious, but I agree with an earlier comment that you might find yourself vulnerable to fire from your target if both hands are needed for control of the beast. No, I don't know the answer to any of my questions.

Shoulder mounted mini-rockets, ejected then ignited.
Maybe a helmet mounted HUD / sight?
Now we will need up-rated jets to handle the weight of body armor plus the extra fuel, etc.
Racks for bombs, etc.
Where do I stop? :-? :-??

Will you need a multi-engine licence?

Parachute?
I was going to suggest an ejector seat but he's already ejected so to speak. How about a vector ejector?

Addition of lift surfaces to take some of the load off of the jets and add some forward speed.

Just an idea from left field, but how about we combine these things with the Segway technology? Which I believe was bought up by the Chinese, after Jimi Heselden's accident.
