You may not realise that NASA has a Planetary Defense Office, to the best of my knowledge the only one on the planet.

So, since Superman isn't about to turn up in the nick of time, who actually is Defending the Planet?

We could do a lot worse, I would say. The boss man is a private pilot who also sails.
The program manager writes parodies.

We certainly need more than one 'Defense' office.

Re: Planetary Defense Defence

Even hostile invaders just 100 years ahead of us in technology would completely defeat and dominate our specie. Dogs too.

So what we need is a fleet of Vogon demolition ships broadcasting poetry on all freqs, all wavelengths. Then we may have a chance.

Not with Donny at the helm - he'll fight them off.

In 1978 I was my local pub's champion at Space Invaders.

As Michael Caine might have said, not a lot of people know that.

I will nominate Supreme Commander U Plum in charge of the 1st Ops-normal Colonial Viper squadron. Sqn Ldr Ex-A leading the 2nd, and Siseman commanding the 3rd. I'll fly as wingman to whoever of the three stands the best chance of not getting killed dead (and thus me!). :)

Space-born bundles of CO2 lasers pumped by low-yield nuclear devices are the way to go. If the alien invaders reach the surface, use Brilliant Pebbles. We should have the systems in place already. Next year is too late.

Reminds me of the Irish bomb disposal instructions

"Cut the blue wire
(p.t.o.)
..but don't forget to cut the yellow wire first!"
