Starlink

#1 Post by Boac » Sun May 10, 2020 8:06 am

Such a staggering project I'm sure it merits a thread of its own!

OK - I know that space is 'big' and all about spherical volumes (more than anyone else, of course), but my questions:

When you look at the incredible mesh so far put up (and WAY more to come!!) the risk of one bumping into another must surely exist. If it does, I guess the resulting 'bits' will increase the risk of subsequent 'comings together'?

Now I wish to launch a rocket to the ISS (yes, I know...). How on earth do I navigate my way through the mesh?

Later I wish to come home for a cup of tea. How do I programme my re-entry to miss the mesh?

Saw that 'originally' but it doesn't tell me how I am going to know when to fire my de-orbit engine to get back for tea without hitting a Musk.

I would also like to know how big the chunks of "5% of Musk" are that are going to survive re-entry!!

I see that SPACETY (the Chinese space organisation) plans to build a low Earth orbit constellation consisting of hundreds of satellites - it's going to get very busy up there!

The X-37 is now back in space - for another couple of years!!

The USA and the Chinese have already done their bit to enhance the risk of the Kessler Syndrome due to their respective destruction of satellites in LEO!
