I note the Starship (sensibly?) landed with 2 Raptors burning this time.

Also of note - the latest Starlink launch booster was on its 9th flight, and the Crew1 capsule is now back at Cape Canaveral/Kennedy Space Centre.

Well now that they one success on earth under their belt, I suspect what is needed is a bit of explanation as to how this might work on Mars, or the Moon, both with different gravitational numbers. Mars with a very low density atmosphere, and the moon with no atmosphere at! A couple more successful attempts on earth might also be useful.

:ymsigh: It appeared that they had to extinguish a fire upon landing, one would hope that they will put their brain's to solving this problem, also would not like to
land somewhere and find that there is a problem with the landing.Landing on another planet will require a surface that is similar to the flat surface used
here on earth,Mars looks very rocky and if one of the legs slips off a rocky part the return trip home may need to be called off.(boom ,crash, bang)

At least a fire will be less of a problem on Mars or the Moon.

Worth remembering that these propellants that are 'burning' are designed to 'burn' in space!

Used to live near the rocket and missile testing range near Rooi Els. Many of the missiles there used ammonium perchlorate propellant (the perchlorate as the oxidizer). The pristine area and the water table in that beautiful reserve there has now been contaminated by the chemical residue. It seems the same is happening on Mars!
Ammonium perchlorate composite propellant is typically used in aerospace propulsion applications, where simplicity and reliability are desired and specific impulses (depending on the composition and operating pressure) of 180–260 seconds are adequate. Because of these performance attributes, APCP is regularly implemented in booster applications such as in the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Boosters, aircraft ejection seats, and specialty space exploration applications such as NASA's Mars Exploration Rover descent stage retrorockets.
Homo sapiens, homo idioticus!

Ammonium perchlorate oxidizer..

Of considerable note: The Falcon9 booster for the latest Starlink satellite launch has made its 10th successful landing back on the drone ship. Wow!

Very impressive!
Any idea of the actual cost of new vs. cost of refurbishment?

No clear idea for SpaceX itself, but this from the 'Motley' https://www.fool.com/investing/2020/10/ ... kets-now-w on customer costs.

I'm sure I can rely on TGG to be fully on board with all the Spacex Boca Chica stuff - prowling around a few sites today I see reference to 'Kong' and 'Beannie' being 'at LC' and something else at 'OLIT'.

HELP! It's a bit like trying to decrypt a PN post.........................

I'm OK with things like 'HighBay' and 'MidBay', but................. :))

I am guessing that Kong and Beanie are cranes like Tankzilla. OLIT is that new launch structure/technique they are using on the big pad there. The T is for tank methinks.

I am just a bit of an orbital hodad around these Boca Chica dudes Boac. Time for my cocoa and beddy bye's! ;)))

Just say rad dude and don't give yourself away by saying "grody to the max", which is just out of date Valley talk used by young girls, and which let me down badly when I tried to impress the new generation of the beautiful "in" people some years back As you probably know, a hodad is somebody who hangs around surfers pretending he can surf! What with this lingo I feel like a space hodad around all the cadets! =)) ;)))

While we struggle try to keep up with the SpaceX Boca Chica argot, I proffer this on the self landing abilities of some of their craft.
