I see that the press now have the rocket "plummeting". I am sure they would be surprised to learn that everything in earth's orbit is falling!

'Fings in orbit, don't fall; they 're-enter'.

Weightlessness in orbit is essentially falling towards the earth which falls/curves away away from you, as fast as you fall towards it. Re-entry is where the earth and its atmosphere gets in the way and you land with a big bump or a splash.

Provided you are properly heat-shielded.

From your article
"While much of it is likely to fall into the atmosphere,...."

Hmm.

I rather feel that the use of the word 'landing' might be just a little overly polite....

To get into orbit, throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Never for one moment have I ever considered you to be other than among the highest echelons of decent and polite gentlemen BOAC.
However, if perchance, (and I am certainly not wishing it to be), this 'ere CZ-5B should manage anyway to make a 'landing' within cooee of your green house, my suspicions are that certain language may emanate from your being that would not normally be associated with such an esteemed group of wholesome citizens...

No, quite safe, John. You may safely remove your fingers from the proximity to your ears. Both NZ and the UK are out of the orbital path.

(Should it 'land' on the USA........................................ :-o )

That would rather put the proverbial cat among the pigeons, would it not!!

I agree that in this instance your greenhouse - and our delicate UK ears - seem to be out of the danger zone but the orbit.ing-now.com website seems to suggest that NZ is presently still within a fighting chance... :-s

From TGG's Indi article today

"The Long March 5B rocket, which carried a Chinese space station module, has dropped into low Earth orbit and now risks crashing back down."

Well, that's a surprise. Great journalism again.

Thinks - could it be persuaded to visit Mar-a Lago?

I see what you mean about North Island.

That gets a vote from me! (Though I expect Sods Law being what it is, the most famous resident and family would find only ways of benefiting from such an outcome...)
