Before the trend for longer lines on underslung tasks, here's a photo of me doing a pole lift from a car park at Porlock, Somerset, when we constructed an 11kV line up a steep hill in 1971. The photo was a 1973 leaving present from my boss and the reference to "the one that got away" was when in this early Electricity Board 206A with the underpowered C-18 engine on another job I ran out of height, power, and ideas and had to jettison the pole.

In 1962, years before I started civilian flying, Bristow had some interesting contracts around the world and it was not always blood, sweat and tears.

There was time for a quiet beach picnic in Trinidad...
