It was Frank Robinson was the one who requested the SFAR in response to the NTSB trying to ground Robinson helicopters and revoke the type certificate.

Caco-Egos and helicopters are a bad match that often end up with ugly and deadly outcomes.
How few hours it took to solo means EFF all in the bigger picture of being a steady and safe helicopter pilot.

I believe that 'flying solo' should not be the end of instruction, so, meanwhile, you are still getting instruction which will add to your necessary knowledge.

Bloody hell, Caco - on watching those videos I'm just glad I'm retired! When I was under training in the year dot we had just finished one lecture on helicopter aerodynamics and the next lecturer on the same subject came in and asked what we had just been taught. No, he said, I don't think that's how it works, my theory is this.......

Bo-Spectacular but risky.I would have opted for using the winch to lift the injured skier if I had a winch available .Those blades were very close to the slope, the injured skier and the attendant. An unexpected gust of wind at the point of touching could have resulted a bad outcome.
I was taught always side ways to a slope never nose in.

Quite extraordinary that everybody in the helicopter as well as the guy tethered to the helicopter, survived that. Two accidents coinciding to affect so many people!

These folks near Pringle Bay and surrounding areas, home to Caco's family old holiday house could have done with a bit of that rain today as fires in that the area raged on...
Firefighters are still fighting a blaze in the mountain area of Kogel Bay in the Western Cape.
“The mountain fire along the R44 Kogel Bay and Steenbras dam area has been mostly contained,” Cape Town Fire spokesperson Theo Layne said on Friday morning.
Layne said only a few hotspots remained, but fire-fighting crews monitored the area overnight.
He said there were about eight fire fighters on the ground.
The R44 remained closed to traffic.
“It will be evaluated later today to determine whether it would be re-opened.”
Earlier this week, helicopters water-bombed areas that were inaccessible to crews on the ground.
Layne said at the time that strong winds were hampering their efforts.
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old man who allegedly started the wildfire near Betty’s Bay in the Western Cape is expected to apply for bail next week.
The man allegedly shot a signal flare into the air. It was carried by a southerly wind into fynbos on a mountain slope behind his house.
The man is facing charges under the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act for causing a fire, discarding a burning object in a place where it could start a fire and acting in a manner likely to cause a fire.
They should load the gun with a flare, shove it up his arse and pull the trigger until it goes click!

I note the helicopter in the pic above has a "choker" attached to the bucket.....this is against bambi bucket procedures, it should be attached directly to the belly hook or put on a minimum 50' line.

The whole firefighting and Huey helicopter setup in SA has had its moments G~Man, not all of them good, to standard or even airworthy in some cases... the provenance of some of the aircraft being suspect as well at times...
