The Pay Is Not Enough

Never mind that it was done to attack James Bond in "The World Is Not Enough", there's no pay that would entice me to do this. Single engine, prolonged time in the dead man's curve, bloody great saw ready to chop you up if the engine quits and you land on top of it...and that's if you don't hit the power line on the way down. I suppose if you're hour building it's one way of getting the time in.

That operation could have other good applications too. Disposing pesky interfering tree huggers for one. Demolishing the ex-wife's weatherboard house she unfairly wrenched from one's divorce is another.

I wonder how much medical insurance that worker pays each year? Being barbecued by 66,000 volts is probably an exclusion.

If that happened it wouldn't be him needing medical insurance, it would be his family collecting on the life insurance part.

My neighbour 2 doors down is a lineman. I spent some time chatting to him about this a few days ago. He likes working on the hot stuff, perhaps in the same way that the rest of us like flying an approach in scoschie weather, or fixing something under time pressure with half the tools you are supposed to have, etc. When one masters a craft, one does want opportunities to demonstrate that mastery. He also is very aware just how much people rely on their electricity these days, which is why he's up in a shaking bucket fixing lines in a blizzard, for every hour he can stay awake. He was telling me how he feels it is his duty to turn out, even if he's not officially on call, like firemen do. Because he can feel people hoping the power will be back soon.
And of course one of those people is his wife, now stuck at home alone in the dark, so somehow the power line to his house gets fixed pretty soon. And I am on the same line. Which is nice

Where is your sense of adventure.....It is not dangerous, it has "risk associated with it".....that is what I tell her indoors anyways. The saw work can be fun, but only one person......HEC, (Human External Cargo), is where the US has gone now. Here is one of my guys installing marker balls, and the 2nd one is my 212 doing a pole set in the Feather River Canyon.
