Bored...post some pics of flying

With all this Covid-19 stuff going on, I am lucky to be "exempt" from the quarantines. I ferried a Bell 205 almost the length of California on Tuesday and brought our Huey back. This is just breaking out of the Grapevine heading North yesterday.

They're out now, but they'll be back again, just as they are every year.

You'd wear a bone dome if you flew your helicopter upside down like G~Man! =))

I notice that his lucky gnomes have hung onto their bobble hats...

My phone camera tends to invert downloaded pictures as well.... :)

I usually wore a bonedome for aerial work category tasks but the passengers would have got a bit upset if I wore one for public transport jobs. Somehow it doesn't give the right image if you have one and they don't...... :))

1969 - Plugging holes in the roof of the railway tunnel that goes under the River Severn...at low tide of course....and wearing a bonedome. Wish I had that dayglo flying suit now - I obtained that when we cross operated with the USS Randolph off the Phillipines....

Yep, when I fly up-side down.....lol

The US Forest Circus requires us to wear helmets and nomex clothing....however we also wear it for other external load jobs too..... most injuries in those regimes are head trauma.

And yes , the gnomes kept their hats.....

Not strictly rotary, although propellers were involved. The Kaieteur Falls in Guyana as seen from a Guyana A/W 748. The picture was taken in 1985.

No prizes for guessing (1984). Livingstone wuz ear. But not this altitude. Difficult to get overflight clearance. I think on one occasion we over flew did a 180 and flew back the opposite way. Helps who you have on board though. Actually managed to get clearance in a light aircraft a few years back, Mrs Ex-Ascot has never been there. As we are not going to go to Greece this year I was going to send her in a choppper to fly over the falls but impossible now. Maybe next year. As mentioed on the forum the flow is incredible now.

We were fortunate, we visited the falls for an Easter weekend and saw them in full flow.

For the trip I bought a water proof case for my then up market Hi8 Sony FX700 video camera.

It wasn't a success.
One had to set the camera to fully automatic for all functions before shutting it into the case. This included auto focus. When the spray got onto the glass panel on the front of the case, the camera decided to focus on the spray [-X

So I have quite a lot of out of focus video clips of the event.

Today's cellphone take much higher quality video than Hi8. Which was the bees knees in its day.

Mount Wai'ale'ale on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii, the wettest place on earth with an average of 450 inches of rain per year. I took the pic of my partner aircraft on his way out as I was on my way in.

Is that where they filmed the helicopter scene in the very first Jurassic Park film?

Close---right around the corner. That scene was at Manawaiopuna falls in the Hanapepe valley:

Truly beautiful place, and an "interesting" place to fly I guess... :)

If you are daft enough, you can do similar trips on Reunion.
