All great photos Gordy! Never did any live line work, just inspecting 11, 33, 132, 275 and 400kV lines for 5 years. Never touched one and then a few years later when I was a passenger someone flew me through an 11kV line. As Tommy Steele would say "Flash, Bang, Wallop!"

11kV line patrol, looks near Chew Valley Lake, Somerset, Bell 47J2, circa 1970 (my shoulder!)

On Thursday I'm having lunch with a guy who flew through a 33kV line in a Wessex 5 in a Cornish valley many years ago. Very badly injured, once fit again and after the RN he came up to Scotland and flew often with me to the rigs. When Bristow bought the business he left, went fixed wing and flew on Highlands and Islands routes for BA (748?), later converting to the 747 and on retirement at 55 from BA he flew the same type in Singapore on freight operations. Quite a career!

We do all sorts of line work now....for HEC we no longer do live, all circuits are tuned off prior to working wih helicopters. We do pole sets, insulator change outs, wire pulling, HEC, and of course patrols.
