South Korean S76 rescue goes wrong...

#1 Post by CharlieOneSix » Mon May 04, 2020 9:22 am

A South Korean S76 had a problem during a rescue and sadly the guy being rescued and his wife - who was underneath the helicopter - both died. A guess is that the S76 lost an engine and without single engine hover capability this is the result. Possibly he overpitched trying to keep it in the air and lost some tail rotor effectiveness as a result. There is no indication of the altitude/temperature at which the rescue took place but with five(??) crew on board plus the casualty on the winch he wasn't that light.

Googling South Korean mountains gives a few to just over 6,000 ft and if he had 5 onboard to rescue 2 people....
