I was reading through the most recent of edition of the ever excellent HeliOps online journal and was focusing on the subject of helicopter noise and was delighted to read an earlier article by one of the very experienced professional helicopter pilots who posts here on that very subject and realised that I have never been apt to regard the sound of any aircraft as noise but rather as an invitation to look up in delight and wish I was up there in that looking down. I guess not all folk feel that way.
I won't post a direct link to the aforementioned chap's excellent article without his say so as he divulges his name but, instead point the good reader to this article on Bell Helicopters' technology used to possibly reduce the audio footprint of helicopters on people on the ground.
I hadn't realised how implicated the tail rotor is in the generation of helicopter noise...
