I cannot be certain of the location - I think it was RAF Gutersloh in the 60's with 2 and 4 Sqn Hunters in residence. A Hunter on jacks for servicing somehow fired a few 30mm rounds across the airfield roughly in the direction of the other squadron.

You can see how it could happen.
"Firing button not working."
"It is now . . . "

Boac, t'was Gutersloh, and according to folk who were there when that happened, it was inside the hangar and the rounds had hit the hangar wall. Apparently, it was the same aircraft (WW593) that later caught fire in II(AC)'s hangar when a drip tray holding a mix of AVTAG and AVPIN was ignited because of an "electrical malfunction". The aircraft was Cat 5'd and ended up as a decoy out on the airfield with an anhedral far greater than Mr Camm's design. The only human casualty of that day was a civvy cleaner (reported to be an Italian) who broke a bone or two jumping out of an upstairs window of the hangar offices. I was a couple of hundred yards away when it happened and have to say the Fire Section were on the scene in seconds (the hangar was their next door neighbour) and managed to get the fire out in fairly short order.

>drifting slightly<< I was a lot closer to the scene when a Sidewinder went walkabout at Leuchars. :-o :-o
