G CPTN, I think you're right. I had a laser leveller and a pointer, indeed how far do they go? Nighttime is the only time you can see it at night, so yes, the temptation is there.

In my case it was no mote than 50 yards.

In the UK prison sentences are usually handed out for this offence. Even for first offenders they range from 4 to 14 months. That latter sentence referred to the laser incident to the Glasgow Police helicopter the day before the dreadful Clutha accident almost exactly 8 years ago.
