CHC Helicopters has agreed the sale of Offshore Helicopter Services (OHS) UK – a business it acquired from Babcock before UK competition regulators blocked the deal – to South African firm Ultimate Aviation Group.

Ultimate have no operations in the Northern Hemisphere but I wonder whether this means they will enter the North Sea market - they only operate Bell 412s and smaller at the moment. If they do, it will mean even more of the usual helicopter operators race to the bottom pricewise to get contracts.

I was apt to try and better understand why the regulators may have belatedly blocked the deal. This article was pretty clear...

One wonders whether the new deal with Ultimate Aviation Group will include the purchase of existing aircraft and ground assets here in the UK. Their existing helicopter fleet doesn't seem adequate to the operational role in the UK, and consists only of the types pointed out by C16.
