LTE - Huey takes a licking but keeps on ticking

#1 Post by OneHungLow » Thu May 18, 2023 4:41 pm

I was boning up on LTE, prompted by the unnamed commercial pilot managed who managed to spin one of the R44's that I have flown in flight training through 720 degrees while attempting to take off, fortunately with no apparent damage to the aircraft or himself, and I came across this 2016 video of a police Search and Rescue Huey that ended up yawing hard right due to LTE during a difficult rescue mission at altitude. The aircraft made a heavy landing and was clearly damaged but the pilot managed to fly the team out and land back at base, landing on pallets as one of the skids had been damaged, the pallet procedure looking pretty dangerous to me. Must admit I would have have worried about the integrity of the airframe after such a hard landing, note the door frame is distorted but the Huey is clearly a tough aircraft.
