I think it should be part of all officer training if they didn't come up through the ranks and already have the duty time. Hands-on the front line so they know what they're ordering others to do.

228 OCU AT Coningsby in the late 70s used the Students that were still going through ground school as aircraft guards during exercises. The more senior students on refresher courses did not do guarding, but did help in the 64(R) San Ops.

If true, quite ridiculous. llondel, you can order someone to clean a bog but don't need to have done it yourself. It is undermining the rank system. I bet a SWO would refuse. Yes IT exercises are a complete pain but a different matter. I was once in charge of a snow plough. But not allowed to drive it. :((

It seems RAF has a lot to learn from it's Greek homologue. I did my Radar Technician training in a base located in the most posh district of south Athens -t15, knows the area it isn't far from the hotel he used to stay when he visited for business.

What the base commander did was to close down guard posts when not enough trainees where around. So with the same risk assessment the number of guards changed depending on staff availability. Problem solved

I find it gets a better response when you can not only do it - but do it better than they can, whatever it is.

If you contractorise everything you don't have any spare bods to impose extra duties on.
