The Unpleasantness In the Levant

#1 Post by ian16th » Sat Apr 14, 2018 8:54 am

Reports of last nights operations against targets in Syria mention the fact that Raphale's of the Armée de l'Air took part.

Anyone any idea where they are operating from?

CNN reported the following ian16th...
The French defense minister, Florence Parly, said the jets flew from bases in France. Like the British Tornado, the twin-engine Rafale could be armed with Storm Shadow missiles that can fly for more than 250 miles.
This means jets could strike without having to fly over Syria and avoid anti-aircraft defenses.

I would imagine they tanked just east of Sicily once each way. That was the normal routine for Tornados going UK-Cyprus. NAS Sigonella is a handy diversion, though I expect the French avoided using it.

Why the French would avoid using it? Was Capetonian around the base?

Naples has refused entry to a US sub which took part in the Syria attacks.

So, use of Italy is a touchy subject.
