Without wishing to denigrate the bravery of Doris Miller, I wonder how much ribbing the USN will get with 'Doris' on their hatbands? I reckon the RN would have a field day in Portsmouth pubs.

With all due respect to Doris Miller!
On the subject of American names and pronunciation, some years back I helped rollout a new computer system to a chain of American company owned stores in Europe and the UK. One of the American SVP's came out to a flagship store in the UK to celebrate the system's inauguration and to announce the introduction of a new store staff khaki uniform. You can imagine the poor fellow's consternation and bemusement when waves of ribald British laughter met his prouncement of his "pride in the new cackey uniform".
