2nd aircraft delivered.

Question: Seeing as the RAF has only ordered 9 of these aircraft, why are the 2 digits used in the tail number?

If they are optimistic, they should use alpha characters!

A to Z discounting I & O, 'cos of the confusion facto, still gives lots of choice and saves paint and sign writing costs.

A two digit numerical suggests a 'serial number', whereas a single digit can be misconstrued to be a version number.

That would have worked with the Nimrods as they were all hand built and each one different!
