Unusual sight over Rutland.
C17 just passed , wheels down, took the A43 to the A1, left hand down a bit, then right hand circuit to Cottesmore and a high overshoot, round again and but the A1 900ft, then overshoot again.

At last the Avtur conversion is over and he has buggered off home. Nice to see but not 15 times.

Re: Unusual sight over Rutland.
We had one in these parts about 10 days ago - ex-Brize on FR24, he did a hold, approach and go around at Aberdeen, same at Prestwick enroute back to Brize.
The helicopter pilots' mantra: If it hasn't gone wrong then it's just about to...

Was it one of ours?
Or one theirs, doing a practice run for next year's Farnborough Air Show?

Re: Unusual sight over Rutland.
They'll miss it, navigatorially, just like the B-52 who did a low pass over Blackbush or somesuch venue.
Re: Unusual sight over Rutland.
RAF C17, C130 and A400 have been doing a lot of circuit work all over the UK over the last few weeks at airfields that don't usually see them. As regards navigation they seem to take often very circuitous routes. One A400 coming back to Brize Norton from Gibraltar - east from Gib totally avoiding the Iberian peninsula and well south of Minorca before turning north to Marseilles, Lyon, Paris then blighty. At a guess 40-50% longer than direct. I presume the Spanish are being awkward about the RAF in their airspace. FR24 taking quite a few viewings over the last few weeks.

That's navigorial skill.
I was pointing out the reciprocal.

Daughter said they were doing 1600-1800 runway bashing at Wittering all week as well and then back again 2200-0100.
Bastard s kept me awake last night when they attacked Cottesmore for a change. Kept me awake for at least one circuit.

I wonder how they manage social distancing while they are at Wittering.

Glad you were there as a nav in the cricuit.........PN wrote:Just proves you need a Nav.
I've spent lots of time in the Cottesmore circuit but never an hour at a time.
Do they have nav aids on the airfield, he never did a touch and go?
Mind you, I did have some students who's circuit sizes would have benefitted from a nav. "XRay 42, final, request QDM...."

BOAC, we had one such at Coningsby. We were number 5 in the instrument pattern out bound in on 070, 2,000 feet as directed. Coasting out at Skeg I suggested giving them a call in case they had forgotten us.
