I miss our 'Pigs'

Remember feeling the heat as they flew past...awesome stuff....they are all chopped up now and buried deep in landfill near Ipswich, disposal papers dutifully sent to the US showing that we had destroyed them all, save a few gate guards and museum pieces...

Back in the day, virtually every RAF station had a pig farm. The pigs were fed on swill collected from the various messes and thrived until a new set of regulations came in which closed the pig farms down.

One understands that Oi/c Pigs was regarded as a particularly **** secondary duty.

'Pigs'...as in nose down in the grass foraging...a reference to terrain following radar....

This is a fascinating site....the crash site photos from Tenterfield, Guyra & Evans head are sobering...
