From the Torygraph
"RAF could revive Cold War tactics to foil new Russian missile threat

‘No-notice’ scatter drills will disperse jets to civilian airfields and other improvised locations, including potentially motorways"

Or indeed we war horses adept at sandbagging windows with paper.

Jules Flood, SqnLdrOps at Honington wrote an article proposing use of bare bones runways for small numbers of aircraft, basically disperse and refuel and possibly rearm.

It got some traction with people going out looking for suitable runways. Somewhere in the translation the concept went astray. One airfield, Swinderby I think, was rejected as the accommodation was unsuitable (no 4 star hotel?) and no electronics bay. The comms facilities were inadequate and..... And so it went on.

True the Tornado needed a bit more than the jump jet but a jet with fuel and 9Ls was 100% better than an A1 jet fully armed in a HAS, fragmented runway, and chemical contamination.

If they wanna use the M8 or the M9 or the M90 or the A9, they'll have to fix the fukkin pot-holes and tarmac-cracks first.

If they wanna use Embra, they'll have to pay a **** fortune to Swissport or Signature for compulsory handling.

If they wanna a use Glescae, they'll need a **** dictionary. Same-same Furryboots.

Alternatively, they could buy Prestwick for a Poond, just like wot the Scottie Gumment did. They'd have to rig a pressure refuelling hose to pump profusions of large denomination banknotes into the **** place subsequently though, just like wot the Scottie Gumment does.

They could re-base the Harrier fleet to Stronsay. Oh!

Else: they could rebase to the Blaircaft carriers, 'cept one of 'em keeps flooding 'cos the CPO hasn't been told where the shutoff valve of the fire main is; and the other one has been tasked to go and explain to the Chinkys why they lost the Boxer Wars and show them that Pusser has a new way of disguising the Blaircraft carriers to look like HMS Amethyst going against current of the Yangtse looking like a junk pretending to be Type 45 type junk located in Scapa Flow. That'll fox "all those slitty eyes" (**).

(**) That bit is trademarked to Admiral of the Fleet the Late Prinz Philip Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg von Battenberg von Windsor und Staines und Slough.

Very noticeable. On a Sunday "Valley, Barnburner 1" Silence... "Barnburner1 Request Basic Service..." Silence...

Clearly the Russians should attack on a Sunday...

That's OK until they have to wait to land on a road due to single alternate lane traffic. Or do a tailwind landing if they can't wait.

Now here's a suggestion. As filling stations for petrol become redundant convert suitably located ones for Avtur.

Don't want to start a new thread. Who is the officer with all the gongs and no wings to the right, at the Battle of Britain fly past today?

I would hazard a guess as Commandant of the RAF Regt, an Air Cdre, not sure the name. It is not the one appointed in 2019 who was assigned to Kabul in March 2021.

Is he an officer? A WO maybe.

His right cuff is visible through the railings.

Ian, you get the coconut
The construction was unusual in that the bow and stern were constructed separately before being assembled together with the American-designed missile compartment.

They could re-base the Harrier fleet to Stronsay. Oh!
Our airfield (EGER) is 29 km NNE of Kirkwall, is 39 ft ASL and has 3 runways:
2/20, 515m x 18 m, Graded
6/24, 411 m x 30 m, Grass
10/28, 404 m x 18 m, Grass

You'll have to negotiate with Orkney Islands Council if you want to use the airfield https://www.orkney.gov.uk/Service-Direc ... fields.htm.

However, you shouldn't have any problems like this
