Ilondel asks:- " BTW - can Covid after effects include total incapacitation?"

I believe the answer is YES, if recent events happening on sports fields in full view of the TV and spectators' cameras is anything to go by, especially the fatal ones.

Young fit sports folk clutching their chests and dropping to the ground is not a good advert for BigPharma, as their share prices' sinking and desertions by execs would suggest. :-?

That's hardly what one wants during a stressful carrier landing as I gather it degrades all the psychomotor skills which pilots often utilise?

I believe the answer is YES,
Sounds like an excellent reason to be vaccinated to me if you think so? (He said 'Covid' not vaccine, or did you not choose not to notice?)

By the way, I think it was FD2, nor llondel.

We await your fine judgement to tell us that the recent Heathrow fire engine was caused by a recently vaccinated driver who clutched his chest shouting 'bloody vaccine' while steering the machine away from an orphanage.

The ship's crane had over 2 miles of lifting cable on it - but then deep sea recovery is their job after all.

ps - bm - has that website correlated the number of athletes or games players around the world who may have suffered 'collapse' events prior to the advent of Covid? Just for fairness sake of course. I don't suppose the USN has released any details about any incapacitation issues with the pilot?

Please move further discussion on the issue of athletes incapacitation to the 'Coronabollocks' topic in P&C to save my having to do it. It has no relevance to this topic. If posters want the previous individual posts moved I will do it when I have time.

I am surprised there has been no explanation of this accident, since both the aircraft and pilot have been recovered. Does anyone know if we will get any findings?

I think the likelihood of any further official USN comment, in the short term, on the cause of this accident is unlikely given the ongoing prosecution of some of the crew who released video of the approach and crash landing. There clearly is a great deal of navy sensitivity to the loss of this aircraft and the cause of the accident!

https://news.usni.org/2022/02/17/four-c ... arl-vinson
In the audio, a landing signals officer at the rear of the aircraft carrier can be heard yelling for the pilot several times to “wave off” – the order to abort the landing. Following the crash, radio calls go out to recover from the water the pilot who ejected from the F-35C and to start damage control.

The Navy elected to charge the sailors with the PLAT video, but not the sailors who were behind a photo of the F-35C floating on top of the ocean or a video from the stern of the carrier that showed the ramp strike from below the flight deck. The rationale was that the PLAT video was a government document released without being properly cleared, rather than images or video footage from a personal device, a spokesman told USNI News.

“The sailors being charged under Article 92 are either being charged on a general orders violation theory or as a dereliction – as in they negligently failed to execute a duty not to record and leak onboard footage,” Rob “Butch” Bracknell, a former Marine and military lawyer, told USNI News on Thursday.
“There are two reasons to charge this conduct: Leaking footage of a mishap might reveal platform or performance vulnerabilities to an adversary – maybe not in this case – but they want to deter the conduct in other cases and they want to deter sailors recording onboard systems with personal cell phones and broadcasting them.”

Surely any disciplinary actions regarding the 'leaks' should take place totally separately to accident investigation!

I am not suggesting they are not separate, but say (for example) there was something in the leaked footage that showed some aspect of the F-35's performance envelope that the USN would rather not be remarked upon, but the prosecution wanted to use in the case of the crew that had been indicted (to prove what an egregious act, contrary to secrecy, the leak was, for example), but the USN didn't want to surface that aspect before the full crash investigation had been completed, or maybe even never?

Keeping a wrap, and an embargo on information released, in both cases, makes it easier for the USN to manage the narrative without allowing either concurrent but separate case to contaminate the other one, allowing the final, possibly redacted, report to be released after the disciplinary process is over.
