I think your question mark is well placed ricardian, as none of the better regarded aviation news sources are reporting this unattributed story as yet. It may be true but is best regarded with caution for the moment.
The poor grammar, and non-sequiturs, in the report alone make me less inclined to give it much credence. The use of double negatives etc. is also a cause for hesitation in taking this report seriously.
How does one know that somebody, or a group of people specifically, "nearly begged" somebody else to do something? They either did or they didn't!
