Re: Recruitment - insanity!
Tragically, it is not the least bit insane from the point of view those in charge, as they get paid and promoted (and medals!) for doing it, and fired if they don't.
It is only insane from the point of view of the nation.
What happens when the white males already in decide to leave and the younger ones stop applying can be judged from my other profession, that of physics teacher.
Know how many of those there are? No, you don't, and neither does the government, despite having had a target for them for 15 years and a legal requirement to measure progress against targets.
When they stop talking about it, or even measuring it on the quiet, it's dire.

The only box left unchecked was Sexual Orientation which they will probably have to get around to checking.

A program that should take two or three years is now taking up to eight.
Official sources maintain that this is an expected challenge given the current operational context.
Others call it “the biggest [screw] up in the RAF.”

I knew A bloody brilliant NR one. Made AVM highest ever for a NR. He was on my guard of honour when I first married. Terrific guy and he would joke about his colour.

He was my station commander. Top bloke. When he came round on his first CO's inspection, our sqn WO who knew him from a previous tour greeted him with a "Howdy doody sir" to which he replied "Howdy doody Mr XXXX". OC Supply, unaware of their previous acquaintance, was left open-mouthed and speechless.

Re: Recruitment - insanity!
I recall hearing another Black pilot, being dined in to his new squadron, saying in his short speech (to general hilarity).
"It's good to be back. I'd like to say I recognise a few faces, but all you honkies look alike to me."
He took as good as he gave, and has stated he never felt discriminated against.
