The accident involved an entire family unit. A 9-year-old boy was taken to the children’s hospital Regina Margherita, in Turin, for burns. The mother and father, again due to burns, were taken under code yellow to the CTO and San Giovanni Bosco respectively. The pilot of the aircraft also suffered burns. He was taken, in code yellow, to Giovanni Bosco.
The Frecce Tricolori patrol was expected at 5pm at the Vercelli aero club which included the aircraft that crashed today near Turin-Caselle airport. The patrol was supposed to participate in an air show. A speaker announced to the approximately four thousand spectators present that she would not arrive.
Tomorrow the Frecce Tricolori were supposed to be the culmination of a performance at the Turin-Collegno aero club organized for the centenary of the Air Force. The event has been cancelled.
According to initial reports, the ‘Freccia’ fell during take-off and crashed at the bottom of the runway in the territory that falls within the municipality of San Francesco al Campo. The aircraft then caught fire. The pilot ejected from the cabin moments after contact with the ground.
According to initial reports, the crash of the aircraft may have affected a car.
The Airshow was canceled as a sign of condolence
All the Airshow events scheduled at the Turin aero club for the centenary of the Air Force have been canceled as a sign of condolence after the accident involving one of the Frecce Tricolori planes. The Frecce Tricolori show was supposed to close the Airshow tomorrow afternoon. The aerobatic team was to perform a 24-minute show. A first accident also occurred today at the Turin Aeroclub. During landing, a Galeb jet from the former Yugoslavia had a brake problem and had tilted during the stopping maneuver. No one was injured. The president of the Turin Aeroclub, Alberto Bannino, “on behalf of the entire organization and the Aeroclub board, expresses his condolences and closeness to the family involved and participates in the mourning for the victims”.
