Nice idea. However, the Building Code is set up for normal boxes. Anything else is illegal unless you get special permission, engineer's stamps, etc. And the answer is still No.

I am aware that here there are countless opportunities to legalize and illegal building. For the stick of thousand pounders it works in most places after all.

The method the French use in Spain is this:

- The fine for building without permission or deviating from plans is 1% of the building cost (calculated by the builder)
- The French use French builders from across the border, working at weekends and on public holidays
- The French submit one set of plans to the Spanish town hall and another for their builder. It is not unknown for these to deviate wildly.

Local Spanish authorities are too stupid to do any controls as the houses are built. They also accept that French are tourists here (although in reality they live here 50 weeks of the year) and that they have build the houses themselves with help from 'relatives'.

There's a house in our road which occupies 95% of the plot (forbidden) and somehow had an extra story added above ground floor level - although to be fair the French owners were forbidden by the Spanish town hall from using that floor (!) so it has no windows and the lift passes the floor without stopping. Still got built though, and having been sold doubtless the new owners ARE using the floor-that-doesn't-exist. Probably added windows round the back - hidden building work has been in progress for the past six months.

Here's the situation with my new place. The Government has no idea what's on the property, since it was built over 70 years ago. Thus, I can do what I like and they won't know.
