Captain Ron MacDonald was a well known character at Brooklands Museum, sometimes seen in the left hand seat of the Viscount (G-APIM) or the Vanguard/Merchantman (G-APEP). He was usually surrounded by a few enthralled people, listening to him recounting, in great detail, his wide experiences as an airline pilot.

Sadly, he took his last flight a couple of weeks ago, at the age of (I think) 93. A jovial and fascinating gentleman, real 'old school'.

Ron’s stepdaughter sent the following message to Ron’s friends and colleagues at Brooklands.

‘Brooklands brought great joy to Ron. His friends there and of course the aircraft you have restored and maintain enabled him to remain close to one of the major loves of his life... flight. It would be wonderful to see his friends from Brooklands. Thank you.’

You can find some of his memories here, all well worth reading.

I do have details of the funeral in Guildford, and if anyone with a genuine interest in going is interested, please PM me.

May you always have fair winds and clear skies.
