Erik Molberg - 1942 – 2022
It is with deep, deep sadness we share with you that Erik passed away on Friday 8th July 2022, after bravely fighting a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Known to some as "Twiggy", the Viking or simply Captain; he was from that generation of the original "good guys" of flying.
With a career in aviation spanning over 50 years, Erik was never far from aeroplanes and was always talking about them. He was born in Oslo, Norway in 1942 and started his flying career with Fred Olsen and then began his Viking adventure. Erik moved to Nairobi, Kenya and joined East African Airways (EAA) in 1965, where he met Pat who he married in 1968. Children soon followed with the arrival of Karoline and Lars. He flew the Douglas DC-3, Fokker F27, McDonnell Douglas DC-9 and the Vickers VC10 for EAA.
His next career move was to Gulf Air in 1976 where through the years he flew the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar, the Boeing 767 and finally the Airbus A340 & A330. He lived in Bahrain for over 35 years, where he played an active role in the expat community and prided himself on being a member of the Duffers Squash League. On retirement in 2002, he spent a few more years there enjoying the warmer climate, the expat lifestyle and being Senor Pacos best customer. In 2014 he moved to the UK to live with Bev in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.
Erik leaves behind his partner Bev, his son Lars, and his daughter Karoline (not on Facebook). In Norway, a niece Hege nephew Stein and second niece Stine.
Erik made a lasting impression on many that he met. This news of his sudden passing will be a shock. More details to follow on a service in due course. If you have photos you would like to share, please post them on Erik’s Facebook page or email directly - we’d like to see them. We request no flowers and would suggest a donation in his name to fund research at Pancreatic Cancer UK.
