Those were the days!

#1 Post by Boac » Tue Mar 06, 2018 12:48 pm

Whilst contemplating my (very attractive, of course) navel this am, I was reminiscing of the days of my yoof (50s and 60s) - when I were an Ian Allan supporter and avid spotter - and trying to recall the amzing number of companies producing 'heavy metal' fixed wing aircraft. I'll start the ball rolling and please add as appropriate:
Avro
Airspeed
Beagle
Blackburn
Boulton-Paul
Bristol
de Havilland
English Electric
Fairy
Hawker
Percival
Saunders-Roe
Scottish Aviation
Supermarine
Vickers
Westland

Amazing! That's 16 and I am bound to have missed a few.

How could you miss out Britten-Norman - The venerable BN2A.
And the British Aircraft Co with the BAC-111.

The British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) was a British aircraft manufacturer formed from the government-pressured merger of English Electric Aviation Ltd., Vickers-Armstrongs (Aircraft), the Bristol Aeroplane Company and Hunting Aircraft in 1960.

19! Keep going. No, whoa there. I forgot Hunting - thanks, Ian. + Short and Armstrong Whitworth + Folland (how could I miss them...). Make that 23. Incredible.

We might even squeeze in Rolls-Royce for the Flying Legspread.

Martin Baker, they used to make whole aeroplanes, not just bang seats.

Slingsby - well, might not quite qualify for 'heavy metal' but does for the fixed wing bit.
It's always my fault - SWMBO
