Plettenberg Bay

The Bad - I was minded to think of Plettenberg Bay in the last fortnight when I, belatedly, learned, of the demise of this chap (and his passenger) who ran tourist flights in his motorised glider from there and who had flown me and my beloved as well...

This led to thoughts of this very sad crash at Plettenberg that killed an acquaintance of mine, an accomplished commercial pilot, flying instructor and her co-pilot and all the passengers comprising pretty much all the directors and the CEO of well known South African/Italian bathroom tile, brick and accessories company Italtile.

Plettenberg is a lovely little town, out of season, but the place has contrived to kill 8 friends and 2 acquaintances in car or air accidents over the years...

The Good - Flying a Cessna 210 from Plettenberg Bay to the Shamwari game reserve (about 160 nautical miles away) where we spent a beautiful day and night in luxury, having a small slice of what can make Africa a lovely place to visit. Shamwari is the only place I have had to buzz the runway to clear it of giraffes...

Actually so many good memories of Plettenberg Bay and surrounds, that I could on and on... :)
Though you remain

"To be alive
You must have somewhere
To go
Your destination remains
Elusive."
