Around the World in a 4 place Cessna

Caco and one or two others may have seen part of this guy's history, when he flew a Skylane from England to Capetown and visited 26 countries along the way (plus or minus, from memory).

I have known him for years and happily flown with him at least once, on a much less challenging flight.

Anyone interested in what can be done with a small Cessna behind a prop will hopefully find his new website as interesting as I did.

I have been a follower of this chap's adventures and site for some time now after your initial recommendation fin. I thoroughly recommend it to others here in turn.

Looking open-mouthed at some of the legs in the Pacific, but closer to some people's home, I note he will be flying into Stronsay in the not too distant future, and how exciting it would be to have someone meet him when he does so.

Its all old hat.

In July 1959, 214 Sqdn sent their C.O. there in 11 hours and 28 minute, non-stop!

That will be 60 years ago this July!
I wonder if the event will be celebrated?

Seriously wonder whether anyone will look at this without advance knowledge, and say..."Wait...WHAT???"

Eight plus hours aloft in his 4 place, and he's made it from Florida to almost the middle of Texas.

Made it to California, non-stop from Florida against the jet stream. 14 hours so far, two to go.

You are entirely welcome for sure. I am stunned by his trip preps. You, as sometime resident of Africa, would likely find his flight from England to Capetown equally interesting. He went with a lady doctor and visited over 2 dozen different countries IIRC.

He just updated his website. Flew from Massachusetts to Pittsburg, by way of stops in Florida, California and North Dakota ONLY. In a Skylane.

I'm wondering whether he will turn out to be the youngest ever to solo around the globe. Self financed.

I've just seen fin's post and looked at the chap's website. No mention of Stronsay that I could see.

You are quite right. I just re-checked and he HAS changed his itinerary. And yes, I swear I know the difference between Faroe and Orkneys.

Why the double-back EDI/ABZ?

EDI surprises me greatly as a destination in his current plan.

Nowadays it's about as GA-friendly as LHR or JFK. Even the big boys, with their Challengers and G5s, aren't allowed to park overnight.

He'll also have to take a VERY large bucket of money to pay the rip-off fees. The banksters and the Arab princelings and the Russian mobsters can afford that sort of thing to visit the more expensive Estates in the Highlands, but a Cessna 172 owner? C'mon!

That might explain the backtrack to ABZ. Turn up over EDI, say "how much?" in an incredulous voice and bugger off somewhere cheaper.

Purely guessing, but perhaps he is discharging a (lucky) passenger in EDI. As I have already discovered, there are still parts of his proposed itinerary which remain flexible. I was not aware either, until I read the article, that it is not going to be flown in one continuous journey, but broken into month long segments.
