Meaning of Notam

#1 Post by Rwy in Sight »

I was reading the NOTAMs and I ran into this:

2580/19 NOTAMR A1377/19
Q) LRBB/QMRXX/IV/NBO/A /000/999/4434N02605E005
A) LROP B) 1907180646 C) 1910181000
E) GUIDED TAKE OFF NOT ALLOWED ON RWY 08L

Two questions why D is missing and what does "Guided take off" mean?

Advance the power and just sit there with your arms folded?

Sounds almost like the output of a translator to English from another language, possible given the airport. I assume D is missing because whoever is responsible for guiding the take offs is absent all day.

Maybe typing E iso D was a typo?

But what the heck is Guided Take Off? Are we talking about a form of radar departure here?

Thanks to both of you. Slasher I have no idea - but your point makes sense.

Don't know about 'D' but I wonder if the 'guided take-off' is a system for low vis departures using the localiser as with localiser roll-out? Even in the 'old days' we used to have the localiser displayed for such when available to aid with the 'stop' in 125m.

EDIT: From Wiki:
"Sometimes a "D" line may be present. This gives a miscellaneous diurnal time for the NOTAM if the hours of effect are less than 24 hours a day, e.g., parachute dropping exercises tend to occur for short periods of a few hours during the day, but may be repeated over many days."

BOAC is on the money. Found this:

I wonder if there is an obstruction that could hazard a low vis take off?

A 'Stop' in 125m vis was extremely challenging following an engine failure with the subsequent 'swing', hence using the localiser to 'help'.

Ok so we're talking about the LLZ being off for 08L fm 0646 till 1000Z at beautiful downtown LROP somewhere in the LRBB FIR.

Sounds east Europeen.

Are you certain that is all it is? Would it not say ILS 08l unavailable, Slasher?
I have found this definition:
Guided Take-off: A take-off in which the take-off run is not solely controlled with the aid of external visual references, but also with the aid of instrument references (e.g. ILS localizer guidance

Yes Boac we had that off R13 at Kai Tak airport in crappy wx and after T/O was radar monitored to ensure no one slammed into the hills.

R31 had no LLZ guidance hence a higher T/O vis requirement than R13.

Dunno about the LROP 08 ILS. 'Tisn't the subject matter here so who cares? Maybe there was a notam about it proceeding RiS's one quoted above.

Where TF is LROP anyway?

I think, Slasher, you need to do some research!

On what? Why some guy at LROP went and shut down the LLZ for 3 hours and 14 minutes? I dunno nor do I care. Maybe he wanted to ensure his mate in the LRBB notam factory had some job security.

Loss of 'guided take-off' does not imply loss of localiser. If you knew your NOTAM system that would say 'ILS 08L unavailable. Ask an instructor who knows?

Referring to your post #10, you stated LLZ was an example of Take Off Guidance. As you know, that would therefore mean 2 notams would need to be produced - one for ILS and other for TOG. RiS only produced a single notam.

A SUV with its headlights at the other end of the strip which both marks the TODA and points directly at the centerline can be called TOG (in combination with my landing lights). I had to use that one night yonks ago in the Chieftain as there was no kero for the hurri lamps.

I am adding the full list of NOTAM. Obviously I am not qualified to read them but it seems they do have issues with Low Visibility Ops.

Other than LLZ I'm fuctifino what the bloody Romans Romanians mean by Guided Take Off. Whatever it is one can't do any after 0645 until after 1000Z. I thought it might have something to do with centerline lighting requirements in LVO, but such lighting is an external visual reference.
