I've had co-pilots with comparable conversational skills (and maybe less flying skills..??)

And the airlines would save money on dog-food guarding the pilot.

I keep thinking of the autopilot from 'Airplane !'.
Re: At least Robots don't suffer from fatigue
South Africa decided they’d finally send a man up in a space capsule after sending only monkeys in the earlier missions. They send van der Merwe and a monkey into space.
The intercom crackles, 'Monkey, fire the retros.'
A little later, 'Monkey, check the solid fuel supply.'
Later still, 'Monkey, check the orbital speed and position and report back.'
Later still, 'Monkey, check the life support systems for the man.'
The astronaut takes umbrage and radios down, 'When do I get to do something?'
Mission control replies, 'In 15 minutes - feed the monkey.
(See : I'm not racist ....... it's a vdM joke!)
