Re: 777X Flies!
Maybe all of the pilots should be ex-Navy with carrier experience of folding wing a/c.

Re: 777X Flies!
Perhaps all pilot should be given a carrier detachment to get folding wing experience.

Re: 777X Flies!
I find this a vaguely interesting situation because the folding wingtips are presumably required to solve an airport requirement, gate spacing, rather than an aerodynamic requirement (although they would reduce wing loading allowing lower approach speeds). Is this true? If so it seems that the design has been complicated and weight unnecessarily increased increased rather than redesign gate areas or assign specially configured gates for the aircraft.

Re: 777X Flies!
There was a USN (I Think) test pilot years ago who got airborne in (I think) a Crusader with the wings still folded (possibly a bit weak on peripheral vision as well as checks?) He slightly redeemed himself by (being a TP) carrying out a series of handling tests before landing (safely).

Seems to me to be one hell of a lot of aeroplane fore and aft of the supporting bits. I would need a lot of persuading to board one.

The more complex something is, the more likely it is to go wrong, and the greater the likelihood that those in charge won't be able to resolve the situation.
