Richard Quest travelled RTW using only 'budget' carriers and whilst I don't think his findings are earth-shattering, the article is a good read and has some interesting facts.

Thanks, article good. For short trips, all I want is well-maintained aircraft flown by well-trained crew. And the passengers not to fight amongst themselves or with the cabin staff. So Ryanair Barcelona-Rome 5th November 2015, two of Barcelona's beautiful young ladies tag-teaming the butch cabin crew: no. Tip for flying LOCOS - good noise-cancelling headphones in handbag and "Status Quo"'s complete hits on a MP3 player.

Sounds like a fate worse than death. I would pay that not to travel around the world under those conditions.
