Thisis very sad, apart from the loss of life, it is going to have a negative impact on Turkey's tourist trade and on Turkish Airlines, a pity as it's a good destination and airline,

Eleven killed in latest Istanbul terror attack

A fresh bomb attack close to the heart of Istanbul's historic district has killed at least eleven people and left 36 wounded.
Terrorists are believed to have targeted a bus carrying Turkish police officers, but at least four of those killed were civilians, say reports.
The bomb exploded during this morning's rush hour in the Vezneciler district of Istanbul, close to tourist attractions and Istanbul University.

Gunshots were reportedly heard in the area after the explosion, according to the~Anadolu news agency.
Local reports say a parked car packed with explosives was detonated using a remote control as the police bus passed.
The force of the explosion flipped the police bus upside down and damaged nearby buildings and trees.
Latest reports say three of the 36 injured are in hospital in a critical condition.

It is the fourth major bomb attack on Istanbul this year. A bomb in the centre of Istanbul's tourist district in January, killed 10 German tourists and left 15 injured.
The violence has prompted several UK travel companies to pull out of or reduce their capacity to Turkey this summer.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office warns that further attacks in Turkey are likely and that 'attacks could be indiscriminate and affect places visited by foreigners'.

It said the Vezneciler metro station and roads around the area have been closed, adding: "If you are in the area, follow the advice of local security authorites."

Yes, very sad.

Interesting the lack of media coverage, certainly doesn't seem to be splashed all over the front pages of the papers.

Turkey demanding visa-free travel to the EU,and the British Referendum in 16 days...

To quote the BBC's coverage:
For millions of tourists every year, Turkey remains an attractive, safe destination, but France has urged its citizens to exercise great vigilance in tourist areas and the UK has warned that "further attacks could be indiscriminate and could affect places visited by foreigners".

The second half of the sentence makes the first half look rather ridiculous.
Canada advises its citizens to exercise a high degree of vigilance at all times.
The US Government advises:
Stay away from large crowds, including at popular tourist destinations.
Exercise heightened vigilance and caution when visiting public access areas, especially those heavily frequented by tourists.
Stay at hotels with identifiable security measures in place.

Yet, since the weapon of choice is either remote controlled or suicide bombing, then vigilance hasn't, and isn't going to, help much. Nor has it with the tourist hotel mass murders at places around the Med.
It's a dice roll.

Anyone see Thomas Cook et al talking about their hotel security provisions?
I've checked - not mentioned at all.

Maybe it is a good thing. Security needs to be effective not visible.

And wherever security is, get a SEAL, Ranger, SAS or Commando to look at it and they will pick holes
in it within an hour, if not sooner.

Well, agreed, but it has to exist first.

Update:
Holiday bookings to Turkey have dropped by57% since last year, Egypt by 85%
Looks like Joe Public doesn't agree with the BBC. Now there's a surprise.
