I'm not planning on traveling any time soon so this is just out of curiosity, I'm sure I've read somewhere that some airlines offer power sockets in the cabin but no mention of what type, do manufacturers use a standard type or is it down to the operator dependent on where they are based?

Long time back Zarni, but do remember power sockets in BA 747 toilets for electric razors. They were of the two parallel prong American style.

I believe Thomson 787 has UK style but in Premium Economy. I think it would be rare on any carrier in coach. I think some have a powered USB port which works for tablets and phones.

On Eurostar trains they have 3_types of seats. Some with UK, some EU, and some none. Luck of the drawer I think.

Used to plug my laptop in on the flight deck of the A300-600R if that is any help.

Sure most flight decks have sockets. Just take an extension cable with you and ask to be plugged in. They won't mind.

Make sure you are no further back than row 12-15 otherwise the cable will exceed your hand baggage weight and you won't be allowed to bring your laptop into the cabin.

Seriously, on Emirates, I was over the hand baggage limit. The guy at the counter asked if I had a computer in my luggage. I said Yes and he allowed for the 2.5kg laptop. This was way in excess of the weight of my Kindle

I seem to remember on LH Business class they used to have EU two pin sockets.
BA business class on their old 747s - yep, you guessed.
