The other day we departed not knowing exactly where we were going to land, other than it was Switzerland.
No, not as irresponsible as it sounds.
Our destination was below minima but the forecast said it would improve. To be honest, we weren't confident. (In the Swiss mountains)
Our official divert aerodrome was not good for our pax.
Our ideal divert aerodrome may or may not accept us.
We had another one up our sleeve.
Fortunately, fuel and performance was not as issue.
Briefed the pax, gave him our suggestions and off we went.
Nope, wx was still below minima and realistically, not likely to improve.
Asked ATC for our ideal divert. They said "non". We then said we want to go somewhere else. They were as cool as a cucumber and a couple of ckeeky vectors we were sliding down the ILS. The FBO there were busy as a busy thing. I hadn't seen so many bizjets here so they were running around like a chook without a head sorting transport.
Fun and games.
Destination? ummm
Re: Destination? ummm
"Time to spare, go by air" as the jingle used to say.
Re: Destination? ummm
Indeed and I have used that phrase often. 2 hours late to the destination versus 25 years early to the next one is a small price to pay in my opinion.
Re: Destination? ummm
There used to road signs in Kenya that said :
"Slow down. Better late in this world than early in the next."
"Slow down. Better late in this world than early in the next."
