What does the Kobe Bryant crash and a Cessna 152 CFIT in the mountains have in common? Well known pilot, author and journalist Peter Garrison opines...

Thank you GG interesting. I do however mark the 152 pilot down as an idiot. Not sure about the chopper you chopper pilots would know better than me.

No matter which heavier-than-air machine you fly, two apposite quotes from the Pilots' rulebook:-

"Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it.
The edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground,
buildings, sea, trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly there."

"Maintain thy airspeed, lest the ground rise up and smite thee."

.....and, for our rotarians:

"If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter -- and therefore, unsafe."

Interesting that this came up today again, this picture of me and Ara, (the Kobe pilot), and our significant others on Catalina Island just showed up in my facebook memories from 7 years ago. He is sadly missed by many.
