Views of flying around Europe, north Africa and the Middle East etc
Re: Views of flying around Europe, north Africa and the Middle East etc
Just a few this time. Summer's heating up with some reasonable thunderies. Flew to Calvi for the first time. Nice boat. A visiting US CL650's flight deck. Also, a smoking Mt Etna.

Ah Calvi - went there yonks back in a 737-200 with a nervous Captain and a thunderstorm at the 'decision point' for starting the approach - is that still the procedure? Faint memory but I think we diverted to Bastia.

Great thank you Reddo. Brings back memories. The photo of the flt deck looks as if it is airborne.
Just looking back I didn't notice the Easter egg on the gear lever

Happily there was no thundery on the approach. The ILS was out so it was an RNP. DA was about 1500' or so. There's not a lot of room to maneouvre should you need to go around. We also went to Lugano during the tour, no pics, the weather was ordinary so we had to circle to land. Such fun...
Both flight deck pics are on the ground.

It's a long time since but in the 732 the s/e go-round was a definite bottom-clencher.

Thank you Reddo.
Nice to see Etna smoking away. Did refueling at Sigonella a few times, either at it or over it, so have spent a while watching it, waiting for my turn at the pump.
It is Royal Clipper. I've seen her bimbling around the Caribbean, off Nevis, I think.

Back from a cheeky flight around Europe etc. Occasionally there's a lav service failure...

Weather improved a bit.

Oh! If only the weather had been like that for my Innsbruck trips First one I did I carefully briefed the lead-in lights on the westerly to my F/O but never saw them. Called the tower and he said - "Oh yes! I Forgot to switch them on....."
Don't know who was doing the flying but the approach was definitely too fast and Waaaayyyy too fast on finals.

Our departure was fun. Visual and when clear of the hills, turn left to BRENO.

Re: Views of flying around Europe, north Africa and the Middle East etc
Did you ever have to practice the E/O procedure off the easterly in the sim to 'qualify' or was that not necessary? Hard work in IMC!
Re: Views of flying around Europe, north Africa and the Middle East etc
Oh yes. All the time.

It is a while ago now, but it was a shuffle between two NDBs then - has it 'improved' with GPS?

For those of us who dream about swanning around the World piloting a private jet, these views from those who do it for real are welcome entertainment - keep them coming please.

How about some pics from the other side of the flightdeck door?
