When we did eventually got a home phone old grandpap Slasher thought it was an electronic wonder like the wireless. If he was still around he’d be floored by smartphones and that they had internet capability. “Sh!t! A tiny bloody computer you can talk to someone on!” he’d probably say.

You were lucky. We had t'cart, no horse. Don't have socks either. Used to wrap our feet in toilet paper.

What a luxury.

Last weekend I dug out the contents of the sock drawer, found 14 or 15 matching pairs, took the rest down the mountain to the rubbish point and put them in the clothes container for the poor of Africa. (Let them try to match a few pairs).

Went to bed happy that my sock drawer would now close.

Got up next morning, it was full again ! Can only assume that overnight the socks clum'd back up the hill, wriggled under the front door and with a sigh of relief, got back in my drawer.

I've just packed up a complete household in Islington, moved to relatives for three weeks, and now travelled back to Spain. Not a single sock, not one, has emerged from the travels with a matching partner, although several have seemingly copulated to produce bastard hybrid offspring.

We have 3 sock drawers. One for left ones, one for right ones and one for pairs. That last one is almost empty.

Obviously, your significant other was holding the balance of the orphaned socks as there was no room in the drawer.

Quantum sock shock...

#95 Post by TheGreenGoblin » Mon Jul 13, 2020 7:36 am

It is well known that socks demonstrate quantum characteristics and exist in a superposition of states in your drawer until your observation of the quantumly entangled pair forces the collapse of the probability wave causing them to take on a specific colour, and other attributes, not so much of spin and angular momentum, as fabric and holes. The nature of the sock's quantum entanglement means, invariably, that one of the pair will have opposite colour attributes and that they will be linked by spooky action at a distance and that any observation anywhere of one such sock in the universe will have and effect on the other sock wherever that it is.

It is also noted that many socks smell as if Schrödinger's cat had just pissed on them. There is still much to learn about the quantum state of socks, believe me...

Best let him have his cat back, I reckon (if you can find it, of course)

I just looked in my moth ball smelling drawer, naphthalene serving as the possible deadly poison in the gedanken experiment occurring in my closet, and all I could see was the Cheshire cat's ubiquitous smile slowly fading away to nothing midst multiple pairs of quantumly paired odd socks...

Perhaps I need a little lie down! :)
